Trees

Anyone interested in planting a windbreak, adding to an existing planting or ordering some hand plants should contact the Lower Niobrara Natural Resources District or your local Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) office.    
Trees will be available for the 2012 spring planting season and we will supply you with the information as soon as possible.

Reporting Accidents
An actual or suspected accident, relating to the use of chemigation, must be reported within 24 hours of its discovery.


Notification should be made by telephone during normal working hours to:

After hours or on weekends and holidays, notification should be made to the Nebraska State Patrol.~

Notification should include (if known) the time of occurrence, quantity and type of material, location, and any corrective or cleanup actions presently being taken.

  • Submit a copy of the receipt for the purchase of the shut off to the District

  • Coordinate purchase and installation of a drip oiler
  • Submit a copy of the receipt for the purchase of the drip oiler (including 4-gallon poly tank) to the District 

Domestic Well

Requirements:
  • NRD must sample well to verify nitrate level exceeds the MCL of 10 ppm
  • Well must be sole source of water for the residence
  • Cooperator must agree to provide water to occupied residence for 10 years or refund part of cost share
  • Coordinate all approved construction
  • Provide the District with a copy of construction cost
  • Abandon or cap all unused wells 

Nitrogen Management

Cost Share:        75% actual cost

Requirements:
  • Sign up period:  Sept 1 - May 1
  • Prefer 3 ft. depth samples (2 ft acceptable)
  • Sample irrigation water (1 sample per well)
  • Cooperator can do their own sampling
  • Arrange for professional analysis of samples
  • Submit copies of the results and billings to the District
  • Submit completed Annual Crop Report Form to the District following harvest
 
Guidelines:

  • One composite sample per 40 acres
  • Combine 10 – 15 individual samples for 0-8” composite, 6-8 individual samples for 8-24” and 24-36” composites
  • Sample at three depths: 0-8 “, 8-24”, and 24-36” 

Livestock Manure Analysis

Requirements:
  • Livestock waste must be applied to land used for crop or grass production within the LNNRD
  • A certified laboratory must analyze all samples
  • Analysis must include ammonium-nitrogen, organic-nitrogen, and total phosphorus
  • Collect representative samples as close as possible to the time of application
  • Collect samples before each application
  • Collect and preserve samples according to laboratory recommendations
  • Submit a copy of all shipping and analysis expenses and lab results to the District
  • Apply manure based on sound agronomic principals

Water Testing

  • The LNNRD will test water samples free of charge for nitrate-nitrogen.  Water samples can be brought to the office in Butte or arrangements can be made to have a sample taken.

Ultrasonic Flowmeter

  • Irrigators interested in measuring the volume of water applied through their system can call the office.  The Lower Niobrara NRD has an ultrasonic flow meter to measure flows.  There is a $50 charge for this service.

Well Abandonment

                            Max of $1,500/cooperator/yr 
                            Max cost share based on well dimensions as shown in chart below

 
Requirements:
  • Cooperator is responsible for removal of obstructions (pipe, concrete, towers, etc.) at own expense.
  • A licensed well driller or pump installer must seal the well.
  • Submit application to the District for approval at the next monthly meeting of the Board of Directors. 
  • Cooperator shall notify the District before work begins.
  • NRD can observe the sealing.
  • Cooperator shall submit copy of bills to the District for payment.
