FLOWMETER
Flowmeters measure how much groundwater is being used. The Lower Niobrara
NRD has a portable Fuji flowmeter. This flowmeter attaches to the
outside of the pipe to measure the flow. This is a non-intrusive way
of measuring flow in a full-flowing pipe. Irrigators in the District
interested in measuring the flow through irrigation systems or checking
the accuracy of an existing flowmeter can call the office to make
arrangements.
SOIL PROBE
The Lower
Niobrara NRD has purchased soil sampling probes for resale through
the District Office. The District will absorb 50% of the cost for
cooperators within the LNNRD. The cost to cooperators is approximately
$30 with a limit of one probe per cooperator.
WATER TESTING
The Lower Niobrara NRD has lab equipment to test water for nitrates
and bacteria. Anyone in the District may bring a water sample to the
office to be analyzed. A sample in a clean glass or plastic jar is
all that is needed for a nitrate sample. Water should be collected
from a cold water faucet by letting is run a few minutes to clear
the line. A bacteria sample needs to be collected in special bottles
available at the office. Bring a bacteria sample to the NRD office
right away. A nitrate sample can be refrigerated a few days before
bringing it in to be analyzed.
WELL
PERMITS
A well permit is required by the Lower Niobrara NRD before construction
of a well. Wells expected to pump more that 50 gallons per minute
must have a permit. This well cannot be constructed within 1000 feet
of a municipal well or 600 feet from a well having a capacity of 100
gallons per minute or more, unless both the new and existing wells
are owned by same individual. All wells requiring permits within the
District shall be constructed by a licensed well driller.
